Graduation Ridge Race
Seldovia, AK. Half marathon
Thank you to everyone who turned out for the 2025 Inaugural run of the Graduation Ridge Race! We raised money to extend/improve the trail, and everyone had a great time. Stay tuned for the 2026 Event (possibly either Labor Day weekend, or in August, either the week before or after Lost Lake – still figuring it out)

Description: This out-and-back race follows a volunteer-built hiking trail to the peaks overlooking the town of Seldovia. Start right in town, where a short road run takes you to a single track hiking trail. The trail climbs through old growth forest, tall meadows, and then into the alpine tundra, where you climb to a dramatic wind swept ridgeline, then follow it to the tallest local peak, around 3500 feet elevation, before returning to the harbor. Gorgeous views of mountains and ocean, or shifting fog, or both!
Route: Seldovia Harbor Pavilion to Graduation Peak and the taller peak beyond (informal name PhD) – return to the harbor. 13.1 miles, 4500 feet gain.

Start time: TBD 2026 Cut off time: 6 hours Cost: TBD 2026 (all proceeds go to support future trail work).
Route follows a single track rugged hiking trail, runnable in most places, out and back. No aid stations. Participants should be prepared to deal with all possible weather. Food and water provided at the start/finish.
Stay tuned for 2026! (Aiming for late August or Labor Day weekend) Send questions to mckittre@gmail.com (907-290-6994)
Limit 50 participants.
Logistics The race starts at the Seldovia Harbor, in downtown Seldovia. The Seldovia Bay Ferry leaves Homer at 11AM and arrives in Seldovia at 11:45, in time for the race start at noon (I’ll wait if it’s late). To return, people who expect to finish in time can take the return ferry at 4:30PM. Or hang out and enjoy the finish line party – water taxis like Makos will also make runs to the Seldovia Harbor and I’ll help coordinate some later boats. Smokey Bay Air flies to town, and there are various other water taxi and tour boat companies with various schedules for folks who want to spend the weekend here.

All racers will receive a beautiful art sticker by Valisa Higman.
