— Cabins dot the coastlines of Alaska. Some are park service recreational cabins, or summer getaways for the wealthy. But mostly they are subsistence outposts, providing shelter for fishermen and hunters from nearby villages. At times, storm battered or worried about bears, we've taken advantage of their shelter, which by Alaska tradition is open to travelers.
