Dammed lake on Princess Royal Island

These towering bleached cedar snags protrude from the shallow water along the edge of Bear Lake. They once grew above the water, until gold mining in the area motivated the building of a dam that raised the lake level. The mining stopped in WWII, but the dam remains.
