— Colonial tunicate
Habitat: Rocks. Extreme low intertidal. Found on Rhino Point and Waterfall Beach, Summer 2016. Also Hesketh Island
Description: Translucent tunic with bright yellow-orange zooids. Shape of each colony is something like a salmonberry, with a lobed head and a stem. Each colony consists a handful (6-12 or so) of large zooids. The base of each zooid (in the stem) expands into an opaque light yellow-white oval. The tip expands into an opaque orange-yellow oval. The middle is narrower. Sometimes many of these berry-shaped colonies grow together in a group.
Notes: One from Hesketh was positively identified as R. pulchra. That specimen matches my photos, and the drawings also match. I think this ID is pretty certain.
