— Colonial tunicate
Habitat: Rocks, mid-low intertidal. Common on Outside Beach, also found at Rhino Point.
Description. Grows over the rocks in a thin leathery mat, mostly under overhangs. Occasionally hangs down in drips or lobes. Colonies can be quite large. Tunic is beige, opaque. Zooids appear as brown "freckles." Seem to be in irregular systems, with a few larger pores interspersed between the smaller ones.
Notes: New (or suddenly more common) one we looked at and collected on Outside Beach this summer. Gretchen said this was probably a Polysyncraton, but species is unknown. Would be high priority to ID, since it looks a lot like an invasive species.
